2nd Batch of internship
Balochistan is relatively the least developed province of Pakistan. Several studies and reports have found that Balochistan have the lowest levels of human development in the country the province lags behind the rest of the country in economic growth, labor productivity, health, education and other socioeconomic indicators. Its poverty level is higher than the national average and there is significant difference rural and urban poverty incidence in the province. The province also suffers from the widest gender gaps in education and health in the country. Poor social indicators depict the state of human resource development in the province.
In addition to the poor social and economic indicators, it is also exposed to a number of natural hazards. Besides Population growth, urbanization, poverty, climate change and geographical location, it is also exposed to a number of natural hazards like slash floods, cyclone, drought, earthquake, landslide, extreme temperature, epidemics. These all aforesaid causes have direct impact on the overall nutrition status.
Government of Balochistan Nutrition program for mothers and children have felt that there is a widespread gap in the terms of knowledge base, skills training, long-term planning, emergency preparedness and policy development to respond to any kind of disaster where the population is exposed to endemic, epidemic along with food insecurity and starvation.
BNPMC along with its implementing partners committed to train and motivate the young commencers who are precious asset in enduring country’s development. Nutrition program has taken the lead role in attaining sustainable development, having numerous long term development priorities like equipping the future of this province to deal with any kind of vulnerable situation, building resilience communities through mass mobilization, add xpressing his views d Nasat for the said activity. demias en made and other implementing partners incorporat d Program Coordinator Dr. Ali Nasir Bugti along with health Officials and UNICEF representatives expressed their views while the launch of internship and research support program for university under Balochistan nutrition program for mother and children and UNICEF .
In the 2nd batch 24 Interns of which 15 were male students and 9 girls have been enrolled. Moreover the selection was made on merit by the concerned university’s administration.
In the inaugural speech Additional Secretary P&D Mr. Abdullah Khan have appreciated the efforts of BNPMC, Health Department and the role of UNICEF in supporting this activity technically and financially, adding more he said such internship programs shall be initiated to other departments also . He urged internes that they try to learn more and more about the practicable working environment that will be very beneficial for their future endeavors, in connection to practicality, they must on futuristic basis do research and development work in the Nutrition related activities because this a vast field need human resource along with innovative Research and development in the field.
internes were given a detailed orientation presentation to all the areas of BNPMC along with the development partner’s representative’s i.e, WHO, FAO, UNICEF, WFP, Sun Secretariat briefed the participants to the interventions and service deliverables mechanism been adopted in improving the Nutrition status of Balochistan.
