Quarterly meeting of Provincial Fortification Alliance-Balochistan held at Quetta.
One day long quarterly meeting of Provincial Fortification Alliance (PFA) Balochistan held at Quetta. Mr. Asmat Ullah Khan, Secretary Health chaired the meeting.
While delivering the opening remarks Mr. Asmat Ullah Khan, Secretary Health highlighted the appropriate approaches that should be adopted to resolve the issues of food fortification in the province. The approach should be cost effective and based on, he added.
Dr. Ali Nasir Bugti Program Manager Balochistan Nutrition Program for Mothers & Children suggested that the Provincial Food fortification Alliance meeting should review the accomplishment of previous action point before any further deliberations. He further elaborated that in the interest of province, the concerns of Pakistan Floor Mill Association should be addressed and they should be taken in confidence before enacting the Wheat Flour Fortification legislation.
Dr. Bugti informed that the Wheat Flour Fortification legislation is the activity of Annual Work Plan (AWP) of BNPMC and will be submitted to Health Department. He further said that the Wheat Flour Fortification legislation draft bill has been prepared by BNPMC and sent to the Secretary Health government of Balochistan for further perusal
The representatives of UNICEF, World Health Organization (WHO), Nutritional International (NI) and Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) assured their technical support to PFA.
Dr. Baseer Khan Achakzai, Director/NPM Nutrition appreciated the efforts of the Nutrition Cell Balochistan for its proactive role combating the problem of malnutrition. He thanked the participants and Secretary Health who took keen interest in Nutrition programs being implemented in the province through Nutrition Cell.
