Vitamin A Seminar
Vitamin A supplementation is being implemented with support from the Micronutrient Initiative and UNICEF through Polio NIDS for children 6 to 59 months. This has to be sustained for coming years as Polio is still not eradicated in Pakistan, along with strengthening Government's mechanism to monitor results. However, the concurrent reporting mechanism for Vitamin A coverage also needs to be strengthened. This will be linked to the 3rd party assessment of polio coverage under the Third Party polio partnership between the National EPI Program and World Bank.
In this context, Balochistan Nutrition Program for Mothers and Children (BNPMC) conducted a Provincial Advocacy seminar on Vitamin A Supplementation (VAS) in Serena Hotel in close consultation with (EPI), UNICEF, WHO and Micro-nutrient Initiative (MI) who provided technical support during the sessions and discussions. Provincial Key stakeholders along with District Health Officers (DHOs) and District Superintendent for Vaccination (DSVs) from 14 Vitamin A deficienct high risk districts participated in the meeting.
Dr. Abdul Latif Tareen, Nutrition Specialist presented the design and findings of BNPMC being implemented in seven Target districts and emphasized on the role of Vitamin A supplementation in combating the Malnutrition in the province.
