Secretary Health visits treatment Centers established for malnourished children at Panjgur
Mr. Asmatullah Khan Kakar Secretary Health Government of Balochistan visited Stabilization Centre (SC) Out-patient Therapeutic Centers(OTPs) of Balochistan Nutrition Program for Mothers & Children established at District Headquarter Hospital and various union councils of district Panjgur.
While briefing the Honorable Secretary Health, Dr. Ayoub Murad Pediatrician DHQ informed that BNPMC has provided all essential equipment, commodities and supplies for treatment of Severely Acute Malnourished children with complications at SC level. Similarly, BNPMC has also trained the relevant staff working at SC of District Headquarter Hospital on treatment protocols of Severely Acutely Malnourished Children with complications.
Later on, Secretary Health visited Out-Patient Therapeutic Center (OTP) established in hospital. Dr. Imdad Baloch District Health Officer, briefed the worthy guest that Nutrition Services are being provided to local community through 28 OTPs in the district managed by Health & Nutrition Society H&NUTS NGO and PPHI respectively.
He further said that nutrition program is being implemented by the NGO, PPHI and LHWs program in the district. The nutrition services are being provided to children from the age of six months to five years after screening at OTPs level.
Mr. Imdad Baloch District Nutrition Officer Panjgoor informed that SAM children are being provided, ready to Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) whereas, the normal and Moderately Malnourished (MAM) children are being provided Multi-Micronutrient Supplementation to prevent deficiency of Micronutrients among children. He further told that counseling sessions are also being conducted with mothers and fathers regarding Infant & Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Practices to promote healthy behaviors.
Mr. Baloch added that a comprehensive trainings package on Nutrition Services protocols have been conducted with Lady Health Workers, Doctors and paramedics staff. The purpose of these trainings was to equip the health care providers with sufficient knowledge and skills to treat the SAM children and to provide counseling services to parents.
During the visit to OTP Centers, the Secretary health asked various technical question from OTP in-charge Ms. Salma G Yasmeen regarding measurement of MUAC, taking weight etc.
The OTP in-charge demonstrated taking measurements of children, MUAC and height. Secretary health appreciated her skills and knowledge.
