Community Stakeholders Seminar Conducted at District SibI
Deputy Commissioner Sibi, Mr. Zakir Nasar endorses district administration full support in the operational activities of Balochistan Nutrition Program for Mothers and Children. In addition, highlighting the indicators of malnutrition in the province he elaborated the indicators that portray a dismal picture in the restive province. Urging to the authorities and said, BNPMC activities shall be enhanced to all other districts because the condition of malnutrition is a problem of all far lunged areas of Balochistan. Adding more he said, Nutrition is a global problem and this severity can be brought to lower ebb with the collaborative multisectoral approach. He was expressing these views while addressing the stakeholder’s consultation seminar conducted by the Health Department and Balochistan Nutrition Program for Mothers and Children (BNPMC).
On the occasion Nutrition Program Manager Dr. Ali Nasir Bugti, District Health Officer Sibi Dr. Akbar Solangi, Additional Deputy commissioner sibi Mr. Abbas Malik, Deputy Program Manager BNPMC Dr. Sabina Baloch, Dr. Sadiq Baloch, Divisional Director Health Dr. Fazal Ur Rehman Bugti, Nutrition program Technical Expert Dr. Faisal Shahwani, DNO Zhob Mr. Alamgir Khan Mandokhail, Deputy Director Population Welfare Ghulam Mustafa Hanbi, Senior Pediatrician Dr. Ali Ahmed Baloch, Dr. Sarwar Hashmi, Principal Public Health Midwifery Dr. Rukshana Sharif, Dr Qadir Haroon, Rabnawz Khosa, Mir Shahbaz khan Barozai, Malik Sajid Bangulzai, Noor Ahmed Shah, DSM PPHI Mr. Uzair Baloch along with other relevant stakeholders of the community, tribal elders, civil society, Students from various institutes,women from community and Media participated in the event.
Deputy Commissioner Sibi appreciated the interventions made by Balochistan Nutrition Program for Mothers and Children team and said that the team working in the district is doing the operational activities with zeal and enthusiasm. He said that the coordination of the BNPMC team with relevant stakeholders is magnificent as the team is engaged in outreaching the community by providing them guidance, medicines and other relevant things. He said that to create a healthy society all stakeholders are supposed to play their due role. He assured district administration full support by Using a combination of approaches, including specific healthcare interventions to address stunting, malnutrition, and by encouraging collaboration among other sectors as it is not only a single department or program mandate, he said that it is problem of all that be dealt with combined efforts.
On the accession District Nutrition Officer Mr. Iqbal Bangulzai gave a detailed presentation and said that total Population of the district is 253618, and the district consist of 18 union councils, the target population of less than five years is 38042, the number of pregnant and lactating women consist of 20288, the ratio of rural and urban is 68 to 32 percent. Total number of OTPs established in the district consist of 22, in the district 123 number of Lady Health Workers and Lady Health supervisors are working that are covering only 13 Union councils. Covered and uncovered areas population is 29% and uncovered population is 71%, Covered Population 38854 (29%), Uncovered Population 96718 (71%).
Balochistan Nutrition Program provincial Coordinator Dr. Ali Nasir Bugti said that the overall goal of the project is to improve the nutritional status of male and female children under five years of age and that of women of reproductive age by improving the coverage of effective nutrition interventions in the selected districts of Balochistan.
He said that, spreading the omen effects of malnourishment in the community is the most compelling along with challenging task, because it’s anticipated to change the general public’s usual misconceptions in abstaining to visit the nearest health nutrition centres. He urged that the relevant partners/ stakeholders work more progressively in changing the mindsets of the population. He cautioned that according to the World Health Organization (WHO), malnutrition is the gravest single threat to global public health. Globally, it contributes to 45 percent of deaths of children aged less than 5 years and this ratio is more in Balochistan that to be bringing into minimum, this can be achieved if the Nutrition program operations be extended to all other non-covered Districts at Balochistan.
In the event other relevant stakeholders gave speeches for improving the overall nutrition status. in the event stalls of local nutritious food, and other inline department were displayed, people in a large number visited the stalls and appreciated the efforts been taken by the BNPMC team. In the program .In the event a drama was also presented that emphasized on breastfeeding , by the local artistes mainly students. At the end from the team of BNPMC in sense of encouraging the events of the program gifts were distributed amongst the officials, local representatives who worked hard for promoting the nutrition and health massages in the masses.
Prizes were also distributed to the officials that have performed best interventions in the district in relation to the Nutrition.
