Community Stakeholders Seminar Conducted at District Killa Saifullah
Deputy Commissioner Killa Saifullah Mr. Shafqat Anwar Shahwani appreciated the interventions being taken by Balochistan Nutrition Program for Mothers and Children at Killasaifullah, he said that BNPMC has enhanced and improved overall nutritional status of the community in the district and its adjoining areas, which is highly commendable and appreciable. He specifically endorsed the personal efforts being made by District Nutrition Officer Mr. Sami Ullah Kakar, that has been available for the routine immunization most specifically polio eradication campaigns. He was expressing these views while addressing to the community stake holder meeting conducted at Community Hall by Balochistan Nutrition Program For Mother and Children [BNPMC], with support of Implementing partner PPHI-B, HANDS and Health Department Government of Balochistan.
In the event Deputy Program Manger BNPMC Dr. Sadiq Baloch, Municipal Committee Chairman Haji Dara Jogezai, Assistant Commissioner Mr. Javed Domki, District Chairman Haji Abdul Khaliq Meerzai, Deputy Conservator Forest Mr. Niaz Kakar, Deputy District Health Officer Dr Alia Naz, Deputy Municipal Committee Chairman Syed Akbar Khan, BCC Expert Farzana, Session Judge Shaukat Marghazanai, District Education OfficerAtta Ullah Kakar, Director Livestock Dr Haleem Taj, DSM PPHI -B Mr Farid Panezai , Deputy Coordinator National Program Dr Taj Mohammad, notables Nawabzada Mehboob Khan Jogezai, Nawabzada Sikandar Jogezai, Malik Ameer Jan, political parties representatives, lawyers, Civil society, students, tribal elders , media along with other representatives of the community participated in a large number.
District Nutrition Officer Mr. Sami Kakar has presented the overall situational analysis of the program activities in the district and urged the community in ensuring to take the children, and mothers in to the established OTP centers being established in different health facilities for screening and treatment. In his presentation, he briefed the participants with achievements, ways forward and asked the participants for futuristic suggestions, he used the local language as medium of language that majority of the participants have no understanding in other languages. He also praised the district administration for their its extendable and laudable support of the program activities. He also read out the deliverable public massages of BNPMC about breastfeeding, hygiene, importance of local food and their proper usage, immunization etc.
In the event Deputy Program Manger Dr. Sadiq Baloch given a background to the BNPMC and its interventions he said, Malnutrition continues to be a major health problem in Balochistan. 52% of children under five years of age suffer from chronic stunting. 25% of children are born with low birth weight. 40% of children under five are suffering from “moderate to severe” underweight conditions, while 16.1% of children are wasted. The prevalence of anaemia among women is estimated as 48.9% while 57% children are anaemic. The nutritional status of women, particularly pregnant and lactating, is highly unsatisfactory due to various factors. With such a challenging nutrition situation in the province, Health Department Government of Balochistan with the support of World Bank is undertaking Balochistan Nutrition Program for Mothers and Children (BNPMC) through Provincial Nutrition Cell for implementation of proven effective nutrition strategies to combat the issue of malnutrition among the rural and urban population of the selected districts of the province by improving the coverage of effective nutrition interventions. The interventions will be implemented both at community and health facility level through contractual arrangements with partners. The BNPMC at Balochistan will be responsible for financing and monitoring the implementation of the activities at districts. And to its operational activities there shall be a close liaison and collaboration to the community level activities.
In the event other participants have also addressed and given their maximum support for the extendable support in futuristic basis. In the event stalls of local food and literature were disseminated for sake of information. At the end best performers in the field of nutrition got certificates and shields for the recognition.
